Independence Day Message
250 Years of America.
100 Years of the NBA.
Still Building the Promise.
Dear NBA Family:
As this nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence, I am reminded of a history
shaped by two parallel, yet profoundly different, timelines.
For 246 years, our ancestors endured bondage that began long before this nation was founded
and persisted long after. Freedom did not arrive all at once; a path had to be forged that was
never intended for us, and never handed to us.
The National Bar Association was founded in 1925 because Black lawyers were denied access.
Our founders built their own table instead. Today, we stand as the stewards of that hundred-year
legacy.
As this Independence Day approaches, I am reminded that true independence for us was not
granted. It was built—and it must be protected.
We cannot afford to be passive observers at this moment in history. When the history of our
movement is being challenged and erased, we must remain an unyielding defender of our
legacy and constitutional protections. To do that, we must put forth our most equipped
leadership.
I do not take the responsibility of leadership lightly. We do not have time for a learning
curve.
As a seasoned executive who has guided multi-disciplinary teams through high-stakes
Government and Global Corporate environments — combined with deep leadership at the local
Affiliate, Regional, and National levels of this Association, and across broader National, State
and County Bar Associations—I am uniquely qualified to lead and govern the National Bar
Association at this critical time in our history.
My platform—Advocate, Amplify, Advance—is designed to position the National Bar
Association as a vital shield. Under Advance, my vision for our second century starts with
stewardship—including taking the necessary steps to preserve our history and secure our
institutional future, at a moment when our culture and our contributions are actively being
erased.
The National Bar Association is not a footnote in this country's history. I am optimistic that
together, we will move into our next century as a powerful vanguard of justice.
I am seeking to be nominated to the position of National Bar Association President-Elect,
because I am Prepared, Purposeful, and Proven.
I ask for your Support, Endorsement, and Vote. Onward, Upward, and Forward – Together.
Wishing you and your family a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable holiday weekend.
In Service,
Kimberley Ann Ward
