30 Day Count Down

We've Hit the 30-Day Mark to Nashville —

Let's Talk About the Lights.

Dear NBA Family,

As someone who grew up in the city of Detroit, I learned early on what resilience looks like.

Our communities faced actual darkness when utility companies pulled 1,400 street lighting poles straight out of the ground in the community of Highland Park, inside Detroit's own borders.

This left entire neighborhoods in absolute darkness, and yet the community met that profound challenge by building their own infrastructure.

Across our nation today, a parallel dismantling is taking place. We are watching a coordinated, systematic rolling back of hard-won legal protections — dimming the lights on representation, voting rights, and structural equity.

I MEET THIS CHALLENGE, NOT WITH EMPTY RHETORIC, BUT PREPARED, PURPOSEFUL, AND PROVEN.

My vision for the NBA into our second century is strategic execution through the primary pillars of my platform — driven by Principled Advocacy, an Amplified Voice, and Strategic Advancement.

ADVOCATE. Advocate for the constitutional and civil rights so many fought and bled to secure — defending voting rights, civil liberties, and the constitutional protections our communities cannot afford to lose.

AMPLIFY. Amplify the collective voice this moment demands — so that the National Bar Association is the preeminent voice on civil rights and legal issues that legislators, communities, and the nation look to when it matters most — by amplifying the work of our Affiliate Chapters, Sections, and Divisions, and through collaborative partnerships that strengthen our collective voice.

ADVANCE. Advance the mission we are called to carry forward — into our next century with sustained and strengthened membership, fiscal responsibility, and the infrastructure this organization deserves — infrastructure that will also help preserve our own history, even as so much of it is being erased around us. I have served at the Affiliate, Regional, and National levels of the National Bar Association — and I know this organization.  This candidacy is not where my service began. It is where my continued service has led.

Along with many other roles, my record of service includes:

  • Affiliate Chapter President

  • Affiliate Chapter Representative, NBA Board of Governors

  • Deputy Region VI Director

  • Region VI Director, NBA Board of Governors

  • Member-at-Large, NBA Board of Governors, Executive Committee

  • Vice-President, Three Years (One Two-Year Term, One One-Year Term), NBA Board of Governors, Executive Committee

I commit to continuing the work that advances the National Bar Association and protects our communities.

This moment calls for the same dedication and resilience that a community in actual darkness once demonstrated.

I ask with the same resilience this moment demands — for your Support, your Vote, and your Endorsement.

In Service,

Kimberley Ann Ward

Vice-President, National Bar Association

Seeking to be Nominated to the Position of NBA President-Elect
